The Murphy Builders Site

I am getting ready to prime. So far I am scotchbrighting the surface, washing, applying alodine, and washing again. It goes quickly. Most of the alodine area is a yellow-brown. This I expected as Alodine 1200 is supose to do this. I also get some intersting blue-grey areas as well. Anyone else have any experience here? are the blue-grey areas a problem?

We also alodined each part. Are you doing a degrease operation first
with a solvent which evaporates completely? After that a metal prep and
Scotchbriting would also be a good idea and immediately (after rinse and
without drying) alodine with a 3 minute wait before rinsing. The
desired color is the light yellow. It is impossible to get a uniform
color! I was told by a metal finisher that the blue color is
undesirable and is a salt. We could not avoid it in all cases and I
couldn't relate it to any particular processing. It did seem that the
longer the alodine remained on the surface the more likely blue streaks
would appear.

This is not much help but may serve as a basis to contact someone expert
in the field.
