we are now doing the elevator on our elite. I read about reinforcing the
structure in the center portion of the elevator by adding a little tab in
that center portion . doyou have to fabricate a complete new piece. and...
is it worth doing

Would love to help you Gilles, but you should have just asked the list on
this one. I've never touched an Elite (only seen pictures!) :o)))

Bonjour Gilles

Where did you read about the reinforcement? On the Murphy site?

There has been a service bulletin about reinforcing the structure around the hinges on earlier kits (our #583 for example) but if you have
bought a kit from MAM recently then I would expect this problem has been taken care of so it would not be a concern to you. I believe your
kit #717 would indicate that you just received the kit and all should be fine since they apply updates to the kits as they are produced.

In the end, you could verify this for certain by contacting MAM.

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers,

I am doing an Elite, but am not aware of this. One thing I did do on the
elevator was to mount the inspection panels with a 2" piece of hinge along
the front edge, and Tinnerman nuts at the rear edge. If an inspection panel
is to be used for inspecting, then I can't see riveting it shut. (Did the
same on the rudder). I also used Tinnermans to secure the trim servo hatch,
so I can get at that. And you need to beef up the trim horn attach area
with a doubler. And if you want to be able to remove the trim tab, extend
the hinge wire to the tip rib, and put a little access hatch there to remove
it (will send pictures if you like). But the biggest fix of all is that the
spade area needs to be reduced 50% to give satisfactory feel to the
controls. I considered several ways of doing this, and finally went with
Sean White's recommendation to shorten the entire elevator by 3 11/16" at
each end. That's by far the simplest, though it does cut the total stab
area by 5%. I'm assured that this is no problem, but mine won't be flying
for a while yet.

Al Hepburn

Hi Gilles

You found the reference to the fix on the rudder page of our web site! I need to add a comment that says we have an early Elite and that
the later ones are improved in that area so it is more clear. Oops.

You will certainly make friends on our mailing list and I don't think you will make any enemies by asking questions. The reason the list
exists is to ask and answer questions and share information on our projects. You are now part of the small and growing Elite (builders)
group, welcome to the fun!

Cheers,

Dave R.

Hi Mike,

If this is anything like the Moose, then there will be a rectangular hole in
the skin just in front of the V in the center of the elevator on one side
only... if not, I'm afraid I can't help with that. Again on the Moose, your
center doublers will go on the outside of the skin, so when you rivet the
skin on you just don't put any rivets in the holes where the doublers will be
placed later.
