David,

Sounds to me like you are past half done. I am also working on a SR in
Anchorage, AK. I've been at it about 2 years and have around 3200 hours
into it. Don't panic. We (my father and myself) are spending a lot of
extra time on priming parts as I plan to be on floats 75% of the time. We
have also put a lot of time into custom landing lights, pitot tubes, etc.
All the books I read before buying the plane said to double the
manufacturers estimated build hours.

This week we are putting in floors and deburring the front skins and
firewall in preparation of reassembly and engine hanging. Also waiting on
plans from Murphy on the floor installation in rudder pedal rigging. We are
installing a Lycoming O-540 with an 84" 3 blade Hartzell. Hope to fly this
fall.

Let me know how you project progresses.

Chris Gill

Just wanted to get some opinions on this..

I have put just over 700 hours into my Super Rebel project, and
according to murphy the build time is 1400-1800 hours. Assuming 1400
hours, this would put me just over 1/2 way.

I have completed the wing kit and tail kit, to the stage where the parts
are complete and ready for inspection by Transport Canada, they just
need one side of the skin rivetted shut to be 100% complete.
I am at the stage of joining the tailcone to the forward fuselage now..

I know that there is a LOT more work to go.. But I feel like I must be
more than 1/2 way there..

Am I???

Dave

Dave - I would say you are probably 1/2 way in the assembly of the
kit...not the completion of the aircraft. The big difference is the
interior, instruments and engine installation not in the kit. If you
are using an aircraft engine and purchase the engine mount, cowling etc.
from Murphy it is not too bad. If you are engineering your own auto
conversion (i.e. a nut case like me) it can add a lot of hours and years
to the overall project

The main thing is you are happy with the progress and that will keep you
going. The first part of the Fuse goes real as fast as well then
appears to slow around the cabin. The main thing is just keep going...

Best of Luck

You must be kidding. On average you can take a kit manufacturers time to
build and double it. In the case of the Rebel I think 3X or 4X would be
more realistic to do a good job.

Hi All,
I guess I have to put my two cents worth on this one. I do honestly
believe I could put together a Rebel to the same level Bill and I built 97MR
in the time given for assembly, NOW. The learning curve is over, and the
questions We fretted over have been answered. If time is a great factor to
anyone, I suggest they do not make any changes I.E. personalizing the
aircraft. Stick to a known engine setup and keep the panel very basic.
I do mean assembly of the airframe not including the rest.
One more fun saying that has been around aircraft building.
The last 10% takes 90% of the time. I really do agree with that one!

But the best saying of all for Rebel builders, Keep at it, it's well
worth
it!!!
