The spec'd plug for the 912 - 80hp is >DCPR7E< Seems they last about 10 or
15 hours before starting gets worse on most guys 912's, so most guys clean
and carry a spare set of plugs for when that day comes along.

I was in Canadian Tire today and the snowmobile stuff is out. Never seen
them there before but they now have some DCPR7EIX plugs at $11.99 each.
These are IRIDIUM tipped plugs that have a very fine electrode center that
is supposed to produce a hotter spark. Anyone have any experience running
these plugs and if so are they worth the money for a set of eight??

I have Iridium plugs in the UTVA GSO-480's supercharged engines and they
seem to work great (and cost about $50US/plug x 12! and thank god they came
in the engines!!)

Hi Wayne !

Gee, I never had that problem - switched to the DCPR7E's
from the original shielded metal plugs at about 800 hours, and
didn't notice any difference in starting after another 100 hours.
They don't last quite as long as the old metal plugs, but are a
LOT less expensive !! :-) Should still run at least 150 hr.,
though.

Maybe the Iridium plugs might be worth a whirl for winter
starting, though. You could likely get a better price by buying a
full box from an automotive jobber - think I paid about $15 for
a box of a dozen DCPR7E's ... a few years back.

Flew FINR a couple of weeks ago - started & ran fine after
sitting for 3 months in a hangar. It's for sale now for $42,000 CDN
- including free storage until spring !! Anybody looking for
a 912 Rebel with a bit over 1,000 hours on it ??? This is a museum
piece at some future date - it's Rebel serial no. 001 !!

I've never had the problem with any of ours and the Rebel that went to
Cobyconk always started fine. Seems all the guys flying 701's and similar
around here find hard starting after awhile, clean up the plugs and away
they go again. Thought maybe if these threw a hotter spark they might stop
the fowling... that of course they are cleaning off the plugs. Yes I would
of course hit a jobber to see if they could bring in bulk amount for cheaper
(than buying single prepackaged skidoo plugs). Won't be a worry for me until
at least spring, as I don't plan on reassembling the AULA again until then
and as a matter of fact haven't even bothered to start it since it arrived.

How'd you end up with FINR again, or is it still in LS's name?

I run DCPR8E plugs in a 912ULS 100 HP. It has no primer and it always is a
hard start in the winter months. Especially if it's been setting for several
weeks. The owners manual recommends changing plugs about every 100 Hours (?) I
think.

I often thought of installing a primer to ease starting but never was unable
to start it, until last month when I drained the battery. It has 200 hours
time.

Wonder what kind of gas they're running - might be a
factor .... They do need cleaning after about 80 - 100 hr. or so.

I just ferried FINR out to western ontario for him for
winter storage - still flies great ! He doesn't have time to
fly it now, with all the 'stuff' going on next door to him. ;-)
