Folding Boat
Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:01 am
Yes Al, I have a 12'6" Porta-bote that I've carried for 6 seasons on the
side of my Motorhome. I use it with a 5 HP Honda and it goes like Stink!
Best boat I've ever owned! The last time out this summer it cracked the
living hinge on the transom panel and after contacting Porta-bote in
California, to question my 10 year hull warrantee, they were more than
willing to install a new back panel for free. However the shipping was going
to be about $300us each way. Therefore I took their other offer of a new
Genesis IV boat for 1/2 price and it should be here tomorrow. This amount
was from prorating my hull for 50% usage of the warrantee and they could
have just sent me a hull to use my old seats and transom in. Instead the
have sent me an ENTIRE boat assembly with the new plastic seats. This one
will be a little lighter, with the plastic seats vs 3/4" plywood on the old
one, so it's going on the airplane struts and I hope to be able to fix the
living hinge on my broken one somehow so it can continue to go with me on
the motorhome.

thisThanks to everyone on the list that didn't bid and allowed me to obtainthanksfolding 4 hp Evinrude motor. I paid more than I probably should have, forto 3 guys that managed to put 9 bids in on it in the last 8 minutes, but
even with the final tally and exchange rate it will be at my post officepick up (and collection of the gst) for $825cdn. Just hope it's not
hasand runs! Presumed to be NOS never used from 1969/70, but I suspect it
asbeen overhauled (tremclad variety) and this would likely be even better
onflyingthen at least it has some oil varnish inside keeping things in shape.
Just couldn't pass up something this unique to blow some money on! If it
works will be a great useful weight (38lbs) to lash down in the early
tailcone area of FOKM, so I can take the one gallon of water out of each
rearmost float compartment (20lbs)! Needed the weight back there whenalone, to get a nice flare and to hold the nose wheels off the pavement
<http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 2214118&cawithoutroll out. Also makes for a less nerve racking slide on the water, asthe weight at the back when landing on glassy water it felt like it was
going to dig in.
