Elite Oil Canning Corner Wraps Etc., was: Re: Elite cage riv

I don't yet know whether the trike Elte is OK, as I haven't finished it, but
it is certainly very much better than the taildragger kit, which uses FUS-10
corner wraps fore and aft. All four front corner wraps on the trike version
are 0.032", vs. 0.022" on the taildragger. The part number is FUS-452. You
can see that the trike would need more stiffness in the firewall area. When
I say Sean was rocking the airplane by the tail stinger, I mean the pipe
that normally supports the tailwheel. This had been left on the amphib to
facilitate ground handling. And it was the lower NOSE corner wraps that
oilcanned, due the the weight of the engine deforming the lower firewall.
As a retrofit, Sean had fitted about 1.25x1.25 aliminum angle on the outside
of the forward floor, with the front end tied to the lower engine mounts and
the rear end to the 2x2 lower cage, which helped a lot.

I have photos of my forward floor which I will forward you direct, as I've
long since forgotten my passwaord to access the archive area! It is no
doubt a little heavier, but certainly stiffens up the whole area aft of the
engine mounts, and gives a real solid base for the rudder pedals. Plus the
floor is nice and flat if you want to put carpet or whatever down.

Regards, Al
