Tach Cable

Post by Al & Deb Paxhia » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Clay,
The way I did mine was to measure from the engine tach drive surface to the
tach and added 1". I did this using a wire to get all the bends and curves.
This gives a slight bend in the drive cable.

Hi Guys,
I need to order a tach cable for my 0320 and checked the ACS catalogue
for the custom length order info. The instructions say to measure
original cable from each ferrule end. What's a ferrule? Would that be
the total length of inner cable including the metal keyed ends that fit
inside the gauge and engine ... ? The ACS order desk couldn't give me
much help. I figure that my cable will be around 18" with a slight 'S'
turn through the firewall. Maybe I should just go with a longer cable
with a loop ...? Any advice?

Thanks,
Clay Reb 475

Tach Cable

Hi Clay
I think the ferrule is the part that is crimped onto the cable that the
nut runs on. If you measure from the engine flange to the back of the tach
you should be OK. Putting a loop in the cable isn't a very good idea the
cable will be noisy and probably not last very long.

Tach Cable

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

My first cable was nicely the right length direct from tach to engine and a
nice new SW tach took care of that one, during the first hour when the worn
drive seized in the new tach. I have been running a 38" cessna cable that
has a nice large 360* loop, behind the panel, for 8+ years now (around
400hrs) and my tach is nice and smooth with no indications of the
cable/housing giving it up yet.

Tach Cable

Post by Legeorgen » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Clay,

Order your tach cable the full length including the ferrules that fit on each
end of the cable that insert themselves into the gage and engine. I wouldn't
loop it but make sure it is long enough to make the proper "s" turns without
sharp a bend.

Bruce

Jones, Michael

tach cable

Post by Jones, Michael » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:21 am

Hi all

Am ordering tach cable and am wondering if I should allow for some extra in
cable to allow for engine moving or just run it straight with as few bends
as possible
