Headliner

Post by steve.h » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Where can I get a headliner for the Moose? ?
MAM says they don't make one. Is there someone out there that makes
a headliner or is everyone on their own? ?

What's the best way to go? ?

We tried a MAM headliner - it did not fit very well around the corners or
skylights especially with some extra gussets etc in Kakeldey's plane. Very
cumbersome to install and remove and is not installed now. I took pictures
and sent to MAM so I expect they quit making them. I think there are some
shots of Al Paxhia's headliner in the archives.
I am shooting Zolatone paint in my interior with some Kydex
plastic/soundproofing over some areas. It depends how cushy you want it I
guess. Skylights will get in the way.

Headliner

Post by Robert and Olga Johnson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Steve; There are many ways to go with a headliner- This is "homebuilding". I
have a rebel and I wanted something simple, easy to remove and functional.
The method I used was to rivet on 1" wide capstrips on all the roof chanels.
Cut 2" fire retardent flexible foam to fit into each area, Glue on fabric of
your choice, and insert. I have been very happy with this as it provides
three advantages. 1/ Easy to remove if you need to work or inspect a
particular area. 2/ Great insulation quality for both noise reduction and
keeping the heat out in the summer, and in when it gets cold. 3/ Looks good,
very inexpensive to do and very light weight. I originally was concerned
about possible absorbing moisture when the aluminum "sweats" with
temperature changes, but after two years no sign of this at all. If you
would like any additional information or pictures just let me know and I
will send direct to your home .-Bob Johnson Rebel "652" Flying, and having a

Hi Bob

I thought your cockpit looked pretty good but where does one get fire
retardant flexible foam? Or is that the white nudge nudge wink wink
fire-retardant seat cushion type stuff ;)

Robert and Olga Johnson

Headliner

Post by Robert and Olga Johnson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

The fire retardent foam I used was actually green in colour and came from a
local "fabric" store. It comes in a variety of thicknesses, but the 2" was
perfect with the "c" channels. As far as being fire proof, I did not believe
it also, after all it looks just like the normal soft "plastic foam". I
tested it with my propane tourch and I could not get it to burn. It only
shrinks to almost nothing and kind of melts. I fly surounded by it every
flight and have no fear of it being a hazard. As far as the pictures go ,I
thought I had many in my Rebel build and completion files but nothing
detailed enough. I will take a detailed set on the weekend and post to the
list. I do plan on Flying to the builders meet Sunday (if the weather
co-operates) so any interested parties can see first hand. As the saying
goes "KEEP AT IT-IT IS DEFINATELY WORTH IT" Bob J Rebel "652"

Thanks for all the info on the headliner.

Steve, was this the headliner that was removed that shows up in the picture
on their web site? ?

Did you do some of the work on Kadeldey's plane? ? ? If so, can I get some
info on the way the doors were built to swing out and up. Looks like a neat
set up. Am going to start working on the Fus this weekend and will be
putting in some thought on the way the doors were built.

Sent them an e-mail and never got a response from them. Did they work out
alright after they were flying for awhile? Would they rather have had the
standard doors on the plane?

Thanks again for the info.

Headliner

Post by Rhodes » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Steve
Yes that is the headliner in the picture. His plane is going in the hanger
this week and I doubt it will leave with the headliner installed.
I did do some of the work on Ron's plane but a lot of tinkering on the mods.
I have also flown it about 5 hours in the last couple months. I have been
annoyed by the doors on my Cessna's for many years on floats so I wanted the
seaplane doors. I am just building mine now. Scott Aldrich is also about
done with his doors. I will try to post some pics of Ron's doors to the
archives. The email you sent went to Paul - he is fairly busy. The doors
work great but are a lot of extra work. No regrets though and you can fly
with them open if you want.
