Moose Cabin Heat Box

I have a separate heat boxes for defrost and cabin heat. Fresh air comes
from two separate side vents just below the motor mounts. The heat is not a
problem now that the interior is installed. Prior to installing the interior
and insulation it was very cold inside with heat and defrost going full
blast ( -10F outside +10F inside).

Moose Cabin Heat Box

We put a mixer box in Ron Kakeldey's. It takes fresh air from 2 flanges
between the cylinders and the heat comes off the right muff. It has one 2"
hole coming into the cabin and it will cook you out of the front seats. The
left muff is connected to the airbox for carb heat which is overkill as
alternate air from near the engine is enough I have heard.
I too have dual heat muffs and may use both for heat as I do a lot of winter
flying.
Too keep it simple in the winter you can connect a hose to the firewall to
take half of the air to the back seats. I used a heavier non-aircraft hose
(blue) in my 185 which laid on the floor and it lasted many years.
We also put a couple plastic vents in the bottom front corner of his front
windows- the kind that has a little black knob and four screws to hold them.
They work good and will close off completely but are a little ugly.
If you come up with a better way to direct air to the back let me know.
