Elevator Trim Tab Horn WAS
Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:50 pm
David, I just looked at the SR and it's into a rib and double horned with
one in the skin. If your's are just in the skin I would be temped to drill
out the rivets on the horns and the rib next to them and slip a scrap piece
of .040 plate or similar in there to tie the rib/front spar/skin and horns
together.
Cheers,
Wayne

sidedBrian & Guys
Just had a look at the tab & horn on our Elite and while it has the two
thehorn (two L shaped parts back to back) the only thing it ties into except
pieces, skin is the front spar and this is by the first rivet of each of the L
rightthe rest is just the skin, not even the rib (beside it).
I am going to have a good think about whether this is serious or not but
atnow it doesn't sound good enough even compared to the (2 sided) Rebel that
tear onleast ties into a rib on one side.
What do you Rebel & Elite guys think? Anybody see any signs of wear &
noyour trims or was Bob's experience a rather scary fluke?
Bob, any idea what the factory Elite config is?
Cheers,
Dave R.

Hi Bob & Brampton area Rebelers
Great meeting yesterday with a lot of good information.
Based on our discussions, I checked my elevator trim tab. I could see
Itsign at all of any flexing or fatique. The paint was perfect here as
well. It does have 3 rivets - 1 into the front tab spar & 2 into a
fore/aft rib. Still, I am going to fab up a new piece to reinforce it.
It would really be helpful for MAM to publish this stuff on their site.
towas quite a shock to find this out this weekend. I am not sure I would
have been able to handle such an ordeal re: the flutter incident! Way
beengo Bob.
I feel much the same way about the spring gear i.e. their approach has
wayunderwhelming but do not want to criticize. I do feel I went out of my
theirto submit CAD drawings of all my tank improvements - many of which are
incorporated into their present design. In return, it would have been
quite easy to supply some of the basic information. It would not do
noreputation much good to lose a builder/pilot to a flutter incident.
I also checked my elevators & found the left one to be quite tight i.e.
Again, alateral movement but the right one does have some (1/16" approx).
designlittle thought would have gone a long way to resolve this design
weakness. I will address this over the winter as it is not serious but
left on its own, it will not get better no matter how much wishing I do.
If everyone works together we can make this a truly great aircraft

Just my thoughts
