PLEASE READ VIRUS HAS BEEN PASSED

Post by Steve Halvorsen » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:50 pm

Dear Friends:

A virus was sent to our computer and since you are on our Address Book,
you'll need to follow these instructions to insure it isn't on yours. Sorry.

A virus has been passed through a contact's address book. My address book
was infected. Since you are in my address book, you will probably find it in
your computer, too. The virus (jdbgmgr.exe) it is not detected by Norton or
McAfee Anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before
damaging the system. It is sent automatically by "messenger" and by address
book whether or not you sent email to your contacts.

Here is how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it. It only takes a
few minutes.

1. Go to start and click "Find" or "Search" options.

2. In the folder option type the Name: jdbgmgr.exe

3. Be sure to search your C drive and all the sub folders and any other
drive you may have.

4. Click "Find Now"

5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the jdbgmgr.exe, DO NOT OPEN IT.

6. Go to edit (on the menu bar) and choose "Select All" to highlight the
file without opening it.

7. Now go to file (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then go to
the recycle bin. If you find the virus. You must Contact all people in you
address book so that they may eradicate the virus from their own address
books.

To do this:

1. Open a new email message

2. Click the icon address book to "to"

3. Highlight every name and add to "BBC"

4. Copy this message and paste in! to email

Sorry if it got passed to you.

PLEASE READ VIRUS HAS BEEN PASSED

No problem Steve, happens all the time. Go to www.symantec.com click on
"latest threats" and then put the "virus" name in the search window and hit
go. It will tell you everything you need to know before you pass these on
and how to fix things if necessary if you have already deleted things. If I
remember correctly from a couple years ago the files you removed are not
used in most case and distinguish very long file names. You may or may not
have to restore these files.

PLEASE READ VIRUS HAS BEEN PASSED

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:50 pm

Here's the details for the skeptical!

Jdbgmgr.exe file hoax
Reported on: April 12, 2002
Last Updated on: July 19, 2003 02:47:09 AM

Symantec Security Response encourages you to ignore any messages regarding
this hoax. It is harmless and is intended only to cause unwarranted concern.

Type: Hoax

This hoax, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax, tries to encourage you to
delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. Jdbgmgr.exe is the file
to which the hoax refers, and it is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for
Java. The Jdbgmgr.exe file may be installed when you install Windows.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
Notes:
a.. Some versions of this hoax take advantage of an actual threat, the
W32.bugbear@mm worm. The Jdbgmgr.exe file mentioned in the hoax has a bear
icon. The actual W32.bugbear@mm worm file is a .exe file and does not have a
bear icon.
b.. Other versions of this hoax have slightly different ways in which they
refer to the Jdbgmgr.exe file, usually in the subject of the email message.
For example:

Subject: "jdbg" Virus: how to detect and remove.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----

NOTE: Recent

The Windows Jdbgmgr.exe file has a teddy bear icon in the hoax, as
illustrated below:

CAUTION: A virus can infect Jdbgmgr.exe. The W32.Efortune.31384@mm virus in
particular targets this file. Norton AntiVirus has provided protection
against W32.Efortune.31384@mm since May 11, 2001.
