Rebel Fuselage for Sale!

Post by John Hart » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:29 pm

I'm feeling pretty low, fellows. Finally retired and have Rebel #198
ready to put on the wheels, mount an engine, and finish up. Went to
Oshkosh with the objective of selecting/buying an engine, instruments,
prop, ect.

Made out my list...and realized that I would have to lay out $25-30,000
to get it in the air! I doubt that I have enough years of flying time
left to make it worthwhile, and doubt I could recoup the finished cost
in a sale. So, guess I'll have to go back to renting and get my flying
in now...

So, if you know of anyone who wants a Rebel fuselage with all mods,
float points, spring gear, Horner wingtips, ect., mounted on a boat
trailer ready to tow, let me know! My construction was periodically
inspected and signed off by Tony Bingelis while he was alive, so the
construction is good! We're currently located in Columbus, GA. Price
is negotiable...haven't even wanted to think about it.

Rebel Fuselage for Sale!

John
I don't know what your requirements are but I think I've seen 0-235
packages, with good life left in them, removed from Rebels for not much
more than cdn$6,000. (US$4,000). A used Rotax 912 would be cheap flying
if such a thing can be found. MY VFR instrument package with a handheld
COM come in under $1,000 as well. Under $1,000 for a Warp prop. Unlike
most homebuilts, the Rebel seems to have a pretty good resale value.
Coming away from OSK, it's easy to think you need a lot more than the
basics for enjoyable safe flight... Not much of OSK is grass root stuff
anymore.

David Ricker

Rebel Fuselage for Sale!

Post by David Ricker » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:29 pm

Hello John

Can I offer a thought or two and some encouragement also?

First, take a bit of time off the project then come back when it has settled
out some and look at your options. I haven't been to Oshkosh but I can imagine
the sticker shock if you get a handful of new gear (not to mention translating
it to our Canadian "Peso"....). Give it some time and come back to it, it may
not look so bad but if you decide to not continue I don't think anyone here
will respect you less for it.

Ken has given some good advice and perhaps I can back it up a bit too. Bob P.
who spends a lot of time with us on this list has frequently told us "get it
flying and then finish it", from where you are (and a lot closer than our
project!), there are a few big lumps to deal with but like Ken has said, a bit
of shrewd scrounging and some good advice could find you a good engine/prop to
get your feet wet with and move ahead from there. I wouldn't be surprised if
someone on the list could give you a lead on a good engine & prop or who to
talk to. I am sure there people in our group who can give good advice on
picking a good engine deal out of the bunch too, right guys?

On the instruments, go for what you really must have first, even if they are
"experienced" and you will always have room for upgrades as you have time and
gain experience with what you want in your plane. Planning & doing upgrades
will give you something to keep you out of trouble when you aren't flying too
:^)

By the sound of it, you have put a lot of good work & care in your project so I
think we would all like to hear that you could realize your dream and get it
flying. No pressure, just some friendly encouragement!

Cheers,

Dave R
