Dave,
A note of caution. We made the error when sealing the root endat the
tank bottom of building a dam between the root rib and the stringer in
the tank. That then traps nearly a gallon (US) behind the stringer. OK
if it's fuel, BAD if it's water. I now have to go back in a sealed tank
and fix it. Take a look before you assemble the top to be sure there is
a clear path to the sump.

My 2 Cents would be to take a 6" #30 drill bit and poke it through the side
of the root rib about an inch forward or behind the stringer in question.
Then poke a punch into that and give it a little twist to make a quide hole
towards the stringer. Then using the 6" bit drill a 5 or 6 holes into the
stringers vertical flange as close to the end and bottom skin as you can.

Then drill the root rib hole up to 3/16 (or 1/4" if you have a rivet that
size) 1/4" will allow you to attach at piece of tubing to the end of the wet
vac to go in after the chips! When you have it cleaned out then proseal a
rivet into that hole.

If you can't get it cleaned out through the hole then leave the finger
strainer out and the water drain out and put the wing on an angle (climb and
wing tip high) and pour some fuel through to wash the chips out the outlets.

Another option would be to cut a small hole with a dremel so you could gain
access to cut a piece out of the stringer and then using at least a guage
thicker aluminum (read .040) make a patch that overlaps at least an inch in
all directions and double row rivet and proseal the patch in place to
replace the strength of the rib.

Time for a "dumb" suggestion, would it be less trouble to put a second
drain in
front of the stringer than open the tank & dig out the sealer? Would that
interfere with the door as it is opened?

Hi Ralph

I remember that discussion well, I went right over to the stringer in question
and drilled some quarter inch holes through the web to make sure we had flow
past the stringer. BTW, someone posted an answer from MAM that said that mod
was fine. Of course we almost got carried away with the fileting in that
area........but caught it before it was too late thank goodness!

Thanks for your reminder.

PS The Proseal on clothes is how homebuilders recognize each other isn't it?

Great idea with the drill bit for releasing trapped fuel but I am
wondering if trapped water will actually flow through #30 holes while
covered in fuel?? I don't know the answer. Probably work fine but I'm
picturing a drop of water plugging the hole and not flowing through??

Yah, I questioned that in my mind as well and thought a few holes almost
touching each other would do it, but may surface friction will keep water
from getting through. Cut the hole Ralph and do it right!!
