venting

I've got cross venting to my tanks, AND I have a ram
air tube on each cap, with all other cap vents sealed
off. I do remember some fuel flow problems on the early
Rebels, so I thought I took all the steps I could think
of to avoid this type of problem. The only other thing
might be a fuel pump.

Hello Walter

I'm glad your engine outs had a happy
ending. Not flying yet so haven't had
this problem.

Please clear this up for me as I am close to
venting my tanks. You did not
cross vent the tanks but installed forward
facing ram air tubes on each
filler cap.Would you do this again?

Thanks for the help

Murray

Thanks Walter:

This seems like a good thing. Cross vent and install ram air tubes on each
filler cap instead of one vent in wing root fairing.

Hope you solve your dilemma.

Thanks again
Murray

Hi, Alister. I do have the aluminium shroud around the
gascolator, but don't have the cooling duct from the
baffles. Because I'm challenged in keeping my CHT's
down, I don't think I can afford more loss of air from
the cylinders. I do have little cooling ducts on my
magneto's but I don't think that costs me much. Thanks
for your suggestion.

A little off the subject but a thought.
I talked to Brian at MAM re: cooling. When I get to floats he suggested that
I get cooling air for the oil cooler from a scoop rather than from a hole in
the baffle.

I would agree with that suggestion. In winter I have to
tape off part of the oil cooler opening, which provides
more cooling to my cylinders, but when I don't need it.
Then in the summer I open the oil cooler again and lose
cooling on my cylinders right when I need it the most.
Not sure how you would catch the air for the cooler
outside the baffles, maybe some kind of NACA inlet on
the side.

I forgot which cowl you had, Murray. If it's the old
style aluminium one, it shouldn't matter from what I
have heard on this list. It's just the fibreglass cowl
that has these cooling problems because it is so tight
on top and in the front where the inlets are.
