Hi Group,
So glad to finally be a member. I'm at the controls installation stage of
my fuselage now and just today I completed running the elevator cables.
My elevator control is very tight, too tight. I beleive the problem is
in the delrin bearing blocks. I did have to sand slightly before
assembly but I didn't want to make the controls too sloppy. Will this
tightness go away with use or should I keep sanding out the bearings?
How about lubricant? Yeah, I know the manual says not too, but I still
thought I'd ask. Thanks. Clay

Welcome aboard, Clay !!

This is a very common problem - the solution is: just keep on sanding !
It seems the Delrin is definitely too tight, as delivered. Almost everyone
has had this problem...

And the manual is right - NO lubricant (it can shrink the Delrin
later !)

While you're setting everything up, this is a good time to remind
everyone to be sure to adjust the elevator travel so you get AT LEAST
27 degrees of UP elevator (some have as much as 30 degrees!) This is
more than the manual, but is necessary for a decent flare on landing,
especially with heavier engines ! Don't worry if this reduces the
DOWN travel - even 20 degrees is lots there..

As per AC 43.13-1B/2A Par. 7-166 " Tunbuckle Installation" You are allowed
3 (Three) threads showing out side of the barrel or 4 threads inside the
baarrel. Cable strech will vary with the type of cable (galvanized, carbon
steel, stainless steel) and of course temprature. Check out Chapter 7
section 7 and 8. in the above Advisory Circular, at your local airport shop.

Clay,

No more than 3 threads are allowed to show on either threaded portion of a
turnbuckle! Also, like all An hardware, do not lubricate to make easier to
adjust.

The cables will stretch slightly, but if you start out with the three
threads showing, it leaves you lots of adjustment for snugging up later!

Sounds like you are getting close!!!!
