Great way to spend a Friday!

You never know who might drop in on a Friday!! :o))

Jeffrey Steenson came all the way from New Mexico to buy me lunch today !!
(well actually he has some church work in Toronto tomorrow and made me the
first visit of his two day trip).

We went out flying for an hour + to show Jeffrey the aerial sights of the
area and just how the Rebel performs at Gross weight (800+ ft /minute
without trying to make it work at all on my 150HP), had lunch at a local
establishment and then did the hours of "hanger chat".

Then when he finally thought he better get away (to get to the business side
of his trip) I fueled up FOKM and went out and test flew it on the "new"
stretched< amphibs. Flies like a dream and is even quicker now in cruise
with the floats mounted at -2.6* to the belly vs a much flatter mount when
it was on the "1500's". Did a couple pretty hard landings on pavement at
Midland in a cross wind and the floats didn't break in half where I "scarfed
in" 21 inches of material (and a 20.5" baggage door) to make them 1800's so
I think they are good to go. I also didn't bring any water home from
Georgian Bay after taxing around Penetang harbour for a good 5 minutes, so I
think that's a good sign as well.

Posted a picture to Personalities of Jeffrey and myself doing the
unthinkable and putting our hands on my prop spinner while Leah took the
shot!

Cheers,
Wayne

Hmmm, very interesting that you observed higher cruise
with more negative angle on your floats. I would have
thought it would be the other way around. Mine are
about -2.5 (as best I can measure) and was considering
lowering the rear struts one hole which should put them
closer to -3. That may further improve take off due to
the higher angle of attack when at the sweet spot on
water. However, it was my understanding that the
trade-off was slower cruise because of more drag.

Did I see a past post where you set Howard's to -2.9 or
so? Do you know what happened to his cruise?

I am pretty happy with both my take off and cruise
right now, but am always interested in more performance
if it can be had.
