0-235 Rebel Battery Box Location

I am slowly putting R200 together. I would like a concessus of how far aft
to locate the battery. I am a long way (time wise) from mating the wings
(space problem) and doing a weight and balance.

My Rebel has an 0-235, Warp Dr prop, aluminum cowl and standard firewall
location.

I am looking for experienced estimates from any other 0235 Rebel builders.

Hi Norm,

With an 0235 and a WD prop I would think the battery could be located on the
firewall without a forward CG problem. Save the weight of a large cable
running forward and keep the fuselage floor clean.

I waited to locate my battery until I had the plane assembled and weighed.
Then I worked out a few different locations for the battery to arrange the CG
where I wanted it. It worked out really well but I have an 0320 with a heavy
Sensenich prop and original firewall.

You should not have a problem with the battery on the firewall with your
configuration

Bruce 357R.

Hi Norm !

You should have no problem mounting the battery on the
firewall. If you use a lightweight B&C starter, you can spin it
fast enough to taxi with a lightweight motorcycle battery !!
Suggest using an Oddysey lightweight battery - then you can use
a light Lexan box for the battery, as one of our Rebels with an O-235
here did. The Oddysey (sp ??) batteries do not need a drain pipe !

If you really want to put it in back, get one of the narrow
versions of Oddysey, and mount it on the right side lip of the
fuselage just behind the baggage area 'curtain'. By putting it up
on top of the inside corner wraps, you leave the floor flat for
sleeping. ;-)

Keep going - It IS worth it !!! :-) :-)

I'm sure it's in the archives - try a search on keyword

0-235 Rebel Battery Box Location

G'day Norm !

We put an Odyssey (I think thats how it's spelt) battery right up on
the firewall with our 0-235 .... and the balance worked out well with a
wood prop (only weighs about 7 lbs) .... when we fitted the metal prop,
we put a 10 lb bag of lead shot pellets in the last section of the
fuselage to offset the extra weight up front .... and she flies & lands
GREAT ! :-)

Currently in the process of fitting an IO-320 ...... still with the
battery on the firewall .... but with a wooden prop to help keep the
balance.

The battery is about 8" high , 6" wide & about 3" deep .... and cranks
over our high compression 0-235 very well

Hope this helps
