Elite Elevator Tip Weight

Post by David Ricker » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:02 pm

Hi Al

We had the same kind of questions when we were at that stage and asked MAM.
They said don't bother, just install the outer weights, cut the remaining
weight in two and install the pieces at the inner positions and move on.

This is what we did although I cannot tell you how it worked out since we
haven't flown it yet (something about the Fus not being complete...)

Here is a hint for the installation; take a block of steel and drill a
clearance hole for the mounting screws and countersink it for the head diameter
of the CSK mounting screws and use this as a jig to form the countersink in the
backing plates and ribs. Put the jig, plates & a screw in a press or a vise
and squeeze. You have to countersink (drill) the weights as well of course.

Cheers

I'd appreciate advice on the extent of completion of the elevator when
you establish the weight of the balance weights. It's not clear from my
instructions whether the tip skins are (partially) in place or not,
since at no point in the instructions do they appear to mention riveting
these skins. It sort of looks like the elevator should be complete and
riveted closed with the trim tab and servo in place, but with only the
tip ribs in place, and no tip skins, but that's just my best guess.
