My V8 installation questions

THANK YOU EVERYONE!
The feedback was great. I have been convinced to get rid of the magneto and
get a nice dual electronic ignition setup. And if I understood the feedback
it sounds like even though all the Prop Tip Calculator sites I visited say
that to get max thrust you need a max prop tip speed between .88 and .92
mach, something around .80 would be better for lower noise. Higher
efficiency was mentioned too but I don't understand that part. In any case
the 76" maximum diameter for the IVO prop turning the more normal 2700 max
RPM (versus the 3000 I mentioned based on prop tip calculator results) gives
me .80 mach at 60 degrees F, a little higher mach at lower temps and a
little lower at higher temps. Just about perfect for Fairbanks, AK. And I
won't overspeed the tip during winter flying. A 1.7 to 1 PSRU will give me
a max engine RPM of 4590. Also just about perfect. Using the electronic
prop constant speed control IVO offers allows me to choose from a wider
range of PSRUs because I don't need an accessory drive for a governor. It
also sounded like the consensus was for the 30-90" pitch range versus the
45-105" pitch range. I wish I understood that better. Guess I'll dig out
my old Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators book that we used in college, let's
see, 20+ years ago. Sorry BobP, I still want a carb. I like carbs.
Quirky, cantankerous, difficult to set up, but I understand them. And I
stand by my "no fuel returns, no pumps, no etc." position. More power to
you fuel injection folks. Homebuilder's motto - "To each his own." By the
way, I have a metering plate made by Tom McNeil that fits Holley carbs that
has a rotating shaft with strategically placed slots that replaces the jets
and gives me cockpit control of mixture. Hope it works. It's a nice piece
of machining and I see no reason why it shouldn't.
Now to pick a PSRU, design a cooling system, make an engine mount...SIGH!
Wish I could go flying tomorrow.
