Airspeed Pitot

Hi Rick !
I like the cost of your pitot tube - about the same as
mine !! ;-)
The best one I've had was an aluminum tube about 18" long,
5/16" ID, mounted on the left wing, about 3" down on alum. straps,
below the wing, just inboard of the strut. It did stick out
ahead of the wing, but not by much. This was a good spot,
as the plastic tube came off the back, and through the fairing
and down inside the strut ! Being inboard of the strut, it
was out of the way of heads & eyes ...

G'day Fellow Murphy Mob !
Got a strategic question for you all.
Our Airspeed pitot / static pipe is currently hanging under the R/H
wing, just outboard of the strut attach point
It hangs down about 10" below the skin & I made it for the grand cost of
about $1 ....
It works very well ..... but the problem is, people keep walking into it
.... and I fear one day. some geek will take his or her eye out on it &
sue me :-(
So I figured I'd move it to the leading edge on the L/H wing ... where
the stall speed alarm flap/lever/gizmo sticks out (I never use it
anyway) ..... but a fellow aviator insists that it must stick out about
3 feet to get into clean air !?!
I was going to make it about 8 to 10 inches long ..... but now I'm
worried that this might not work.
Can I have a show of "Where we put ours" & what design it is so we can
do it right the first time (or second time actually :-)
Thanks all !
