Chicago meetings - was Brampton meetings

Thanks Phil !!
I think you'd do a GREAT job of hosting Rebel Builders
meetings in your area !! You've certainly got the experience,
and a great attitude ! Nothing wrong with starting in a garage ....
and maybe you can have one or 2 at the airport, too.
All you have to do is pick a date (we've found Sunday afternoons
work best, and we skip July & August, 'cause we're too busy Rambling,
and most folks want to fly, or cottage, if they're not finished yet)
Probably best to publish 2 or 3 dates ahead, and post it here,
in your local EAA chapter newsletter, at airports, and let MAM
know too, so they can send anyone in your area with a kit, or
interest. You will always get folks who aren't sure if homebuilding
is for them, and 'which kit to choose' - I know you'll steer
them right ! You might even get some Fly-In visitors !
Certainly, seeing flying Rebels is a great inspiration, as are
the Builder Visits, where you can see how others are doing things.
The main thing is to have the meeting, no matter what the
weather, and have a box of donuts and coffee, or Coke in the
warmer weather. We do this out of our own pockets, but there's
no reason why you couldn't put out a jar for a 'landing fee' of
a buck or two... or whatever..... Ask people to bring folding
lawn chairs, if seating is a problem.
I can email you a copy of the agenda we use for the
meetings, and run through the format - it's pretty simple,
and almost the same all the time, so it gets easier once you
get over standing up front talking for a few minutes. ;-)
The main thing is the sharing of experience, and suppliers,
and everyone can contribute there .... it's definitely a
GROUP effort - everyone gets out what they put in !
Email me off-line if you want - VERY happy to help !!
Hope this is the start of something good !! I'm sure
there are others out there who'd like to start a group .... :-)
How about a 'Rebel Moose Group' ??? ;-)

BOBI think what I'd like to see - and I'm willing to help
get it going - is for others to start Rebel Builders Meetings in
different areas. I know many of you already get together occasionally
to exchange ideas - this would just formalize it into a regular
meeting, say every 2 months, wherever there are 5 or 6 builders
within driving distance. We try to do Builder Visits in the months
between meetings - again, seeing the other guy's workshop &tools
can really be helpful. All it would take is one person to be
group leader, and organize the meetings. Ideally, they would be in
the same place every 2 months, so folks would get to know when
they could learn about building - so we could attract RAA &EAA
people as well.
I'd be interested in hosting meetings. I live about half way between
Milwaukee, WS and Chicago, IL. Right off the end of runway 23 at UGN. Don't
have a hanger but could set up in the shop (read wife's ex garage) it's not
much but it could be a start.
Any one located in the general area is more than welcome to contact me.
