Wayne & All a Moose Firewall Question
Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:56 pm
Hi Wayne and all,
Randy and I are making progress every day and are heavy into firewall
forward. Pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place after a couple
of weeks of head scratching. We have the major components mounted.
Oil Cooler, Oil Tank (MAM), Air Tank & Valves (Kimball), The M-14 is plumbed
with all US fittings (MAM-Kimball & George Coy), and we know, the where from
and the where too of all the hose connections.
FIREWALL
The firewall on the Rebel, if my memory serves me right, went through some
mods to beef it up for floats etc.
In mounting the oil tank we are placing a 2024 Al 1x1.5 X1/8" angle above
the existing C-channel that runs horizontally across the firewall between
the upper engine mount legs. This angle will be riveted to the top flange of
the C-channel and the firewall. The top mounting legs of the tank will be
bolted through the 1.5" vertical web of the angle. This allows the tank to
be mounted about 2.5" higher than using the center of the C-channel.
THE QUESTION.
Do we install a length of angle to bridge the full distance between the
upper engine mount legs, running the full length above the C-channel?
Only a foot or so is needed to satisfy the oil tanks needs.
Regards,
