What's happening up North. Do you have the same problem with the
politicians that we have in Chicago??????

MEIGS: DALEY DROPS SECURITY STORY...
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Wednesday told The Chicago Sun-Times that Daley
"dropped all pretenses" and admitted it was not security concerns that drove
him destroy Meigs field but his intent to turn the airport into a waterfront
park. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge confirmed Daley had not
consulted his department. At the same time, National Air Transportation
Association President James K. Coyne told the House Subcommittee on Aviation
strongly and directly that "Congress must act by condemning the action"
taken by Daley at Meigs. Coyne warned directly that Meigs "could well be the
first in a long line of state and local government actions designed only to
meet personal agendas while ignoring the aviation infrastructure needs of
the nation as a whole." MORE...

QUEBEC TRIES TO BAN SOME PRIVATE STRIPS
While alphabet groups in the U.S. are fighting federal policies they say
give control of the skies to sports interests, the Canadian Owners and
Pilots Association's battle is a horse of a different color. A Quebec
government department that normally deals with agriculture issues is trying
to clip the wings of rural residents. The Commission de Protection du
Territoire Agricole du Quebec, an agricultural land management agency, is
trying to stop Bernard Laferriere from using his rural property as a grass
airstrip. In doing so, it has launched a debate over aviation jurisdiction,
Canadian-style. MORE...

You've got that right Phil!!!!!

I lost a lot of sleep and weight over the fight I had when I built my hanger
in 1994 and the township tried to charge me $25,000 for building without a
permit. After many sleepless nights, during one of Bob's good'ol builders
meetings I discussed my plight with Peter Muehlegg who's father-in-law (Herb
Cunningham) is the Chairman for COPA now. Peter said to me, "that's why you
pay that $50/year for, give Herb a call and see what he can do". It was only
two days later when I had all the paperwork to be able to tell the township
that the "province has no constitutional power to assess any planning power
on an aerodrome and that aviation and aerodromes are strictly under federal
control". Paperwork delivered and the SOB's told they would be charge with
trespassing for entering without prior permission and life has been fairly
grand ever since! Free legal representation and my freedom returned for
$50!! (and I had just joined COPA 4 months prior!!)

Anyhow! That COUNTRY to the EAST of me, known as Quebec, apparently doesn't
think that supreme court precedence applies to them. All the other provinces
and territories realize that they have no jurisdiction over aviation. Just a
couple dead beats in Quebec that think they are oblivious to such rulings
and have been trying to shut down grass farm strips all over Quebec. The
first case is on it's way to court and COPA is footing the bill to make sure
that they win and then everyone with a cease and desist order in Quebec can
burn them!

I'll shut up now!
Wayne
