Before settling on the M14, I did some checking into turbines. The Walter
is inexpensive, but more power than the Moose needs. It's also thirsty and
weighs a bit. I considered an Allison 250 with the B17 gear box. There are
gobs of these things flying in helicopters around here (with the C20) and I
figured to pick up a mid time engine reasonably. Result was that I should
budget $80k for the engine alone. Hmmm, not as reasonable as I thought.
Then figure the prop, mount and start looking for place to put fuel. Then,
design and build a cowl system. I gotta admit that it would look sexy as
hell, with a long sleek nose. Sorta like a Pilatus PC-7 (I think??). The
Allison is not a noisy engine, either. At least not nearly as loud as a
Garrett. In the end, I just couldn't find the spunk or money to go that
route. If money were no object, I'd have a Maule turbine on Wiplines. I
did get a ride in a C206 amphib that had the Allison conversion. Impressive
does not come close to being a proper description of that performance.
Viable option? Hell yes. Just add $$$$$. :)

Has anyone thought of putting in a Walter M601 into a Moose?
Seeing as the Beavers are being changed over to turbine power I was
wondering if this would be a viable option to power the Moose.
