Paul, I supply all of Clairs Sceli's (CLAMAR's) spreader bar material and
got into that arrangement after a meeting very early in his R & D process on
his nice 2200/2300 float series for Supercub clones. I was trying to get in
from the start, if they had of been highly acceptable for the Elite/Rebel,
but have pretty much passed on that aspect until they lighten them up a bit
or make a smaller series. If Sun n Fun is a go (and they can get across the
border) they will have a "Smith Aircraft" Supercub "extra wide" there on
CLAMAR amphibs, sporting an ATP TURBINE!

If anyone wants a set of these for please contact me off the list and I will
set up the best deal I can for you. The floats are a BIT heavy though for
either the Elite or the Rebel as they are well over a hundred pounds heavier
than MAM's 1800 amphibs. I have been working on him to do a smaller series
but they are so swamped with orders they're doing good to get the 2200's out
the door right now!

Just off the horn with Clair Sceli ....wishing a Happy New Year and
discussing of things to come and improvements that are going on within the
design/construction of CLAMAR's composite floats.

Their latest manufacturing process has made great headway on weight
reduction using an infusion process, along with more aramid/carbon fibres.
They are getting very close to the same weight as comparable size aluminum
floats, but claiming still 30 times stronger. To give an idea of customer
satisfaction, the 2250 amphibs/2300 straights are sold out through September
of 2004.

As previously discussed here there >WILL< be another size option. Clair has
decided to go ahead with a float for the Moose!! He is about to start a 3500
plug design, much like the existing 2250 float but with a pk nose and edo
fluted bottom steps (as per the layup that they borrowed off my 3500
amphibs).

If you have any interest in these new 3500 Amphibs give Clair a ring or
email (and let him know I sent you - since it's not "public" yet), so you
can get one of the first few sets manufactured (and possibly a better deal

Disclaimer: Please note that I am posting this strictly for information on
another one of the float "options" available out there. I have absolutely
nothing to gain from the sale of these CLAMAR floats, or any of the floats
being offered by Montana Float Co, Murphy (if they are even offering -
haven't heard anything new from them on 3500's), Aerotek, Aerocet, etc., for
that matter (unless you get me to install them to your Moose).

Well I took ~ 20 guys on a tour to Denfield/Cherry Grove, Ontario today.....
to tour CLAMAR floats facilities and the Smith Aircraft Works facility. We
also got to view, unfortunately, the location of the crash/forced landing
scene, just before Cherry Grove, that unfortunately claimed the life of 41
yr old Emil Janusiewicz on Thursday, the dealer for the Pathmaker advanced
ultralights.

As promised to Gilles, I grabbed some measurements off the 2150 CLAMAR
amphibs to aid in the installation if any of you choose to go this route for
your water fun.

Weight = 405lbs complete with struts/spreaders/electric pump/hand pump/steps
and flying wires. Note this is still about 140lbs heavier than the original
light skinned 1800 Murphy Amphibs and about 110lbs or so heavier than the
newer heavy skinned pre-builts. This weight difference equates to the 20
gallons of fuel you could carry to stay legal with two guys flying on the
MAM floats. The CLAMAR's are an absolutely wonderful unit, extremely strong
and corrosion proof with all the glass work being done using the infusion
process and all aluminum parts (axles/trailing arms/deck fittings/water
rudders/etc) all alodined. Unfortunately they are a tad heavy in IMHO for
the Rebel series airplanes and a little high on buoyancy anyhow. For
anything in their buoyancy class though, I think Clair has them right on the
money in comparison to aluminum floats. I know for a fact he is lighter than
Wip's 2150 Amphibs considerably, especially since Wip got caught lying about
their claimed 368lb float weight by Cub Crafters. Theirs are actually over
425lbs + the pump etc on top.

Dimensions for the 2150 CLAMAR's

Rear attach bracket's center line, on float deck, is approx 19" aft of the
step.

Forward attach bracket's center line, on the float deck, is approximately
49" fwd of the step.

The empty C of G for the floats is dead center of the LARGE access hatch so
what ever you load in there won't effect the C of G too much, if at all.
This hatch is also located pretty darn close to where the suggested mounting
position is for the floats.

Suggested mounting is to first do a REALLY true and fair C of G for the
airplane on wheels and the float steps rear edge should be mounted 17" aft
in relation to this location

I forgot to add (and called the originals 2150's instead of
2200's!)......that the 3500 Amphib program is well under way with a full
size male plug just coming into completion with a guy working on it full
time. They have incorporated the "drooped nose" of I believe the CAPS and
the fluted bottoms pulled off my EDO 3500's....and an ABSOLUTELY LUGGAGE
cargo door that you could put 10 gallon fuel cans and full 24 Beer cases
thru without turning on their sides! Hopes are to have a female mould pulled
off this plugged in the next few weeks and the first set of finished floats
mounted to a Moose for this summer. The price on first few sets will be
discounted to get the ball rolling, so speak up fast if you are interested.
Weight predictions based on very good knowledge, from the 2200 and 2500
programs, are under 600lbs complete (this is over 150/160 lbs less than my
EDO 3500's!)
