Shoulder Harness

I would like to install Y type shoulder harnesses for the front seats of my
moose. Not sure if it can be done as I believe the seat belts must be attached
to MAIN STRUCTURE. I was thinking of bracing the bulkhead in the roof and
tying it to the bulkhead to the rear. Not sure if this is acceptable. Has
anyone out there attached shoulder straps. I was also going to install an
inertia reels to allow movement and access to all the panel.

Shoulder Harness

Hello Ralph:

I finally located a sheet metal brake to use, and have fabricated the NEW
channels for the shoulder harness assembly brackets. Wow ! I decided to
fabricate them out of .025 rather than .020 (I am not a structural engineer,
but I thought the extra meat wouldn't hurt, and the weight penalty is
negligable). I am going back two bays with the channels.

Before I drill ANY holes, I have a quick question for you. Now that you have
had your shoulder harness kit installed for some time, what is your opimion?
Are you happy the way they turned out? Would you do it again? If so, what
would you do different?

Thanks in advance for the information. Thanks again for the great idea!

I would absolutely do it again and in my opinion it should be a
standard. The gussets at the upper rear door corners which serve to
mount the diagonal MAM standard belt are still necessary to stiffen the
fuselage but they can be modified to delete the belt attach area. I
would not make any design modification as they look good and went
together well. We used fork end turnbuckles to attach the steel belt
"triangles" to the vertical fuselage attach point to accommodate the 90
degree change.

Before anyone asks, I do not have a digital camera so cannot post any
pictures. If there is any interest the old fashioned 10,000 word option
is a possibility if you want to inflict it on all the group.

Great Ralph!

It does LQQK like a nice mod. I am trying NOT to make too many changes (time
and in some cases weight), but this one will be nice. Thank you for sharing
your ideas.

I do have the "custom" channels bent and cut to length and all of the
associated parts for the assembly. BUT it will be several months (ha!)
before I get to drilling and installing the assembly. I will take photos as
I go along.

Thanks again for the information.
