O-360 oil filter clearance

Hi Ralph !
Might not be the ideal answer, but you wouldn't be the
first builder to take an old round kitchen pot with a lip - maybe
8 or 10" diameter - and rivet it it to the firewall behind the
filter. You have to cut a hole in the firewall first !! ;-^)
This gives a handy depression for clearance, while
strengthening the f/w, (and filling the hole ;-) )
Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but might be easier
than the Airwolf remote ..... although that could make changes easier.

Hello All,
Saturday we "trial hung" our Lycoming O-36-A4M with Champion 108 (short)
filter sticking straight back out of the Lyc spin on mount and found
clearance lacking by about 2 1/4" at the firewall. This is the MAM
engine mount and recommended engine model. We had anticipated this
possibility and also wanted to conserve firewall space so had purchased
a B&C right angle adapter. It appears that the B&C adapter only mounts
with the filter at the 11 o'clock position viewed from the engine rear.
By my measurements this would stick up through the cowl. All in all,
not a good day. All the archive pictures found do not show a filter.
Fall back position seems to be an Airwolf type remote filter with extra
hoses and firewall space.
Has anyone else encountered this and does anyone have any ideas for a
best solution?
Thanks,
Ralph Baker
