Flap Handle

I'm working in the flap handle assembly, and I have a question about its
length. The flap handle is 14 3/4" long as measured from the horizontal
torque tube, and it clears the top of the panel by less than 2". It is
4" longer than the locking trigger, and I am wondering whether I could
cut it down. From your experience is there a need for this much arm to
manage the flap loads?

Another thing I noticed is that the flap handle behaves like the
magnetic pole. Is there a favored place to mount the compass?

Many thanks,

Jeffrey Steenson

Jeffrey,
I cut my flap handle shorter to clear the glare shield and also (mainly)
based on the fact that you have to grip the release to operate it and
any additional handle extending below that grip was superfluous. Our
compass is mounted in the panel at the right. Too soon to tell if it
will be difficult to swing.

G'day from OZ !

I used a 1" OD pipe (it fits nicely into your hand) .....

The handle is a GREAT improvement ! ... (not boasting tooooo much here
:o)

I can come in on FULL flap (positive obviously) ... let her flare ...
and the INSTANT the wheels touch - I give her FULL negative flap ..
result NO BOUNCE !!! - (makes you look like you really know what you are
doing :o) :o) :o)

PS - Make sure you are using the LONGER handle (about 10 or 12 inches
from pivot to handle) ... the first one worked well - but was too short
& required 2 hands to get into negative / reflexed position in flight
.... the longer one can be done with one hand.
