Update - Midland Ski Flyin - Sat Feb 8th 2003
Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:45 pm
Hello everyone!
To bad today hadn't been Saturday, as it was a gorgeous sunny day and many
of us played "hook'y" and did some flying today.
I landed on Midland Harbour, just off shore from where we plan to hold the
ski flyin, and it is FAIRLY rough in places so keep your speed right down to
a minimum if you can when you land (if tomorrow or Sunday are a go). The
freezing rain of Monday and Tuesday, combined with snowmobile and scoot
tracks have frozen into a fairly bumpy surface, but I taxied around about 75
feet off shore in a square pattern and didn't encounter any slush. Can't say
the same for another place I landed up near Honey harbour, where I almost
lost my plane in about 8" of slush/water, but Midland Harbour seems okay at
this point.
DEFINITELY NOT A FREINDLY ENVIRONMENT FOR LANDING ON WHEELS THOUGH, so don't
even try it!!!
The plan is to be there by 10am to shortly after 1pm or so. No guarantees to
there being anyone around after that, so if you want to participate try to
arrive by 11:30/noon at the latest if you want a hamburger.
Unfortunately the weather forcast isn't looking the greatest for tomorrow. I
searched through environment Canada, from Brockville to Guelph, and all are
showing no snow starting until later in the day, BUT my main concern is the
20 to 30KM winds GUSTING 60 to 70KMPH they are calling for by mid day. Who
the ..ll wants to be out on a lake in that!!??
It's going to be a really hard call in the morning, if the sun is out, and I
will have to go by latest weather updates and the trusty old windsock 200
feet from the back door. I will try to post whether we are a go or not by
8:30am at the latest. If we cancel for tomorrow it will roll to Sunday
morning (that is currently calling for snow and snowsqualls) and once again
I will post by 8:30am if we are a go or not.
Thanks and sorry to bother those that are not interested or too far away to
attend with these emails,
Wayne G. O'Shea
