AVEMCO in Canada was Re: INSURANCE

Hey Mike,

Maybe they are just excluding homebuilts in the USA, but Avemco is
leaving Canada entirely. Not certified aircraft either. Nothing.
Nada. Everybody that has/had Avemco here has to go find another
insurer. I myself have not heard who COPA is going to suggest or
agency for, but local aircraft owners of all types are scrambling here
in town, as I understand there is very little warning given for this
non-renewal.

Take care.

I just called Avemco this morning, and they will no longer write any
type of
policy on Murphy kits... builders insurance, or standard coverage for a
completed kit. When I asked why I was told their policy had changed. I
would
imagine they are getting out of the homebuilt market. The
representative I
spoke with recommended Falcon insurance... a quick web search turned up
an
address of http://www.falconinsurance.com

I went with avemco last year because they were the only ones that would
even give me a quote for my plane if I ever get my floats finished. After
they cut me off I went back to marsh canada which is the COPA insurance
carrier and saved almost $700 for the year on the gold wings plan. At the
end of last year marsh was pretty fussy about who they'd cover if I
remember they wanted 300TT, 150 tailwheel and 100 time in type. I think the
way the lady talked they have a limit of how many policies they write and
as the year progresses they get stricter about who they'll cover. I think
they'll cover anyone on the silver wings plan which is liability and hull
not in motion.
