Just wondering if anyone has any words of advise on mounting Ski's.

I have Aero Ski's that I want to mount on my Rebel. At what angle should my skis be mounted, as well what attach points have you used on for the bungee and cables.

In site there are several pictures it would appear the the front of the gear leg is used for the front of the ski and the rear ( I have Bungee/Cub style landing gear) for the rear. Did you leave the stock/manual bolts or were they upgraded.

Del, you titled it wheel skis, but I presume you are talking wheel REPLACEMENT straight skis!?!?

You should refer to AC43 for acceptable cable angles, but the Rebel's gear configuration, Aero ski length etc allow the cables to meets/exceeds all the angles spelled out that are critical no-no's .

If you have clear access to the front gear pivot bolt you can use it to attach the front cables to, but I rarely find it clear and make a plate to rivet to the underside of the cabin into the carrythrough tubes (will post a picture in awhile to accessories section). The rear cable gets attached to the rear drag brace pivot bolt and I use a drop bracket that I leave on my airplane year round and use 3/16" quick links (the thread/nut style) for a quick hook up on all six items (2 cables and a spring or bungee/ski x 2 skis = 6). Yes you will need the next longer length of bolt to allow for the tang/drop bracket on each pivot bolt used for attachment.

AC43 shows up to 25* nose down on a ski that I feel is too much and asking for a dig in if your tip gets under some crust. I do the front cables by letting the airplane sit in 3 point attitude (this is about 15* nose down on the skis) and I add a 2" thick board under the rear of the ski to simulate coming down the back side of a snow ridge and make the front check cable tight at this length. The rear cable is made by jacking the tailcone up until the bottom of the cabin floor is about 2 or 3* nose down. This will give you enought nose up ski in level flight to keep the rear check cable tight (even in a loop, don't ask!).

I loaded three pictures to the archives in "aftermarket upgrades", or just click new for the time being. The rear drop bracket is made from a scrap strip of 2024-T3 that's 1/8" thick x 1" wide x about 5 1/2" long (you can use anything similar) The front one is made from 1/8" x 1 3/8" steel about 6" long (1 1/2" bent down at a 45* angle and two holes drilled for cable and spring/bungee attach and 4 1/2" flat for attachment to the carrythrough with at least 4 SS rivets). Quick connects are 3/16" stainless and buy the good quality ones. They are more than strong enough as I have used the tiny 1/8" ones on mine for 7 years and just switched to 3/16" this year (after I had to drill the attach holes out bigger on my fittings so I could pre-rig Ron's wheel skis, so he could get in and out of here in one day).
