Well we sure got your attention.
This is great! I know we will work something out that will be a benefit
to all. Please keep in mind that the problem as I see it is not what we
on this list want. We are already well taken care of, thanks to Mike.
Back in the dark ages of serial numbers 1-250 all we had was the Rouser
or a long distance call to Canada. The Rouser came out quarterly so you
hoped that you would not make too many mistakes before the next one
arrived. The manual was really bad (my opinion). The problem is what do
the flying Rebels want. How do we keep in touch?
One day you will be there (it will happen) so it is to all of our
benefits to try to solve this problem. I am going to do a mailing to all
of the people who ever subscribed to the Rouser in the hopes that I can
locate more flying Rebels and get their opinion. I am waiting to get an
updated list of owners from Dave Walker.
OK I will start the ball rolling. I am Rich Bartman. I live in the high
desert east of Barstow CA. I own 20 acres and have a 1400ft strip elev
1760 average daily temp. 80F. First flight April 26, 1996, one of the
happiest days of my life. 85 hours total time 10 in tail draggers and
I was at the end of the runway with a plane I had just built. Two
minutes later fear set in. Now I had to land this thing.
The next year was heaven. Flew most days, took a couple of trips and my
wife even started to enjoy flying a little. One day at 5000ft smoke
filled the cockpit. Next the prop stopped. A rebel is REALLY quite
without the engine running. Managed to make Apple Vally airport touched
down hard on the dirt over run and collapsed the bungee gear. Every one
of the bolts tore through the aluminum tubes. Minor damage to the
fuselage. The oil pressure switch for the hobbs meter blew out a
terminal (replace those 20 year old accessories) and dumped all of the
oil. My O-235 was gone. Major damage. No money left to by a new one. A
friend asked me to test the first production run of a Porsche 150 hp
engine and redrive he designed. He had been flying behind one for 430
hrs. so I said why not. After a year of rebuilding the plane (spring
gear), fixing problems with the redrive (that's never happened before) I
was flying again. This time with 150 horses. For the next 25 hour I was
plagued with an oil leak in the redrive. After removing it 6 times and
the problem only got worse I told Ivan enough. The engine now sits
waiting to be picked up. I purchased a O-290 and am now having it
rebuilt.
I am now the publisher of the Rebel Rouser. Support financially and
editorially has fallen off. I was on the edge of killing it but there
are still enough who keep send money to keep it going. Still not much
editorial material. Many wanted the Rouser put on the net. Still others
are email challenged. My idea is to get it on the net and publish a hard
copy for those that want it.
Send me any info or pictures and it will go both ways.
