Engine Engineering was Re: Diesel engine option

Hey Mike,

Maybe others would be interested in seeing how the last part of your
comments are derived.

<http://www.engineersedge.com/engine_for ... motive.htm>

Also, see that whole site, at: <http://www.engineersedge.com/>
It has stuff on LOTS of things, including a heck of as list about AN
and MS items. Be sure to hit the "more" button/link at the bottom of
the columns in the index/directory.

Take care.

BIG SNIP HERE

Most of this can be attributed to the boxer design, that allows 7
main bearings in 12 inches. Also, when viewing the higher RPM, don't forget
that the RPM is not the important number, it's piston speed. Because of the
shorter stroke of these engines the Subaru's piston speed at 6500 RPM is only
about 7% higher than a Chevy 350 at 3800 RPM... and the piston mass is
considerably less. Finally, the proof in the pudding for me is the history
Subaru conversions are building every day in experimental aircraft. Just go
to Eggenfellner's web page some time and spend a couple of hours reading all
the customer testimonials!

Hi Brian,

I wish I had known about that web site when I was trying to figure this out
originally! I was able to find the bore/stroke for both engines on the web,
then I just used excell to figure out what the piston speed was. Just to make
it fun, the Chevy stroke was in inches, while the Subaru was in millimeters,
so I had to convert to a common measurement first... of course.
