Hi all
I think a online data base is a great idea. It could be set up like the
chapters in the manual so you could go the the area you are working on at
that
time.
Alot of the things I read about dont make much sense at the time ,,,, but
when
you get to that section you can't remember the details.
For example I am now starting at the bottom carrythrough (fus 5) with spring
gear and I can't remember where that area was cracking at other that it was
at
the inner bolt area.
Also the manual is written based on the spring gear being added after the
aircraft is complete. Its a lot simpler to cut the lower tabs off fus-2
before
the installed then after.... plus you dont need holes in your table
either.
Also regarding the spring gear if you trim 5/8 of an inch off the
carrythrough
(fus 5) ..see fig 67 chapter 13-73 07/27/94..... there is not much
material left for the bolts(AN6-43A). plus if you drill bigger holes in the
outside of the carrythroughs to get to the bolt head and the nuts to tighten
these ...... it just seems to me that this will futher weaken this area.
I am still very intersted in what Murphy has in mind to strenghen this area.

Hi there,
Yes you are right, if you trim too much off the end of the carrythrough
there is very little edge clearance. I found the same problem, I think it
wise to cut only the minimum off the front carrythrough to clear the roll
corner panel as it tapers in, there is no need to cut any thing off the
rear carrythrough. ( I did as the manual said and cut the rear one before I
realized!).
This system is less than perfect, the two outer crush tubes that carry the
bolts for the stradle brackets are a weak point I think. From my experience
these tend to 'settle in' and it is very important to retighten these very
early in the flight testing program ( Like after the first taxi around the
airfield and then more than once!)
Murphy are working on a retro-fit beef up for this area which should not be
too far away, I think if you are working in this area it may pay to wait a
little.
Cheers
Alister
