Window latches

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:24 pm

Hi Ken !

I really like the latches that Brian Cross has installed -
the key is on the fuselage side, above the window, the whole
mechanism is up out of the way, and the handle on the window is
very clean and unobtrusive !! Tom Inglis, and several others,
have done similar latches - it's MUCH nicer than the standard
setup, which puts hardware down where it pokes you in the ear
if things get really rough ... and gets in the way of photos. :-)

For an on topic question - does anyone have a Rebel window latch
arrangement that they are pleased with? It would be nice to have
something that can be opened from outside and inside, and that latches
the window in two places.

thanks
Ken

Window latches

Post by Jim Cole » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:08 pm

Hi Ken,
If you're out flying this weekend, I'd love to look at your window latches
again. It's one of the last things I have to do and I really like what
you've done on yours. I have one picture of your layout but I'm still having
trouble understanding the mechanism. Where are the pivot points - are there
two spots where the delrin joins the push piece?? Also where did you get the
nice knob - handle for the outside? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

Yes BUT...
Anaerobic Loctite products generally need IRON present to setup up
properly. For use on aluminum you should still use the 7649 primer
unless you want to wait a week or more. Don't know if pure acetone is
as effective but I suspect it probably is. Easy to test by sticking two
scraps of aluminum together.

I found out today that the Loctite 7649 is simply acetone in an aerosol
can. I also found out that my old AME uses MEK to clean, then applies
contact cement on both parts to set the seal in place. Lots of options.
