Cable bushing or thimble?

My manual tells me that the elevator cables should use cable bushings on the
end that attaches to the elevator horns. But the bushings for 1/8 inch
cable have 3/16 holes and the holes in my horns are 1/4. It doesn't look
like there's enough material in the bushing to drill it out. A: What's the
deal? B: Can I use thimbles instead of bushings?

P.S. I recently read about clipping the little ends off of the thimbles
before crimping. I have not done that. The little ends just get squished
up in the swage and they seem OK. Shouldn't be a problem should it? I've
got good swages, and three of them as well as recommended.

Cable bushing or thimble?

As long as your cable end stays straight, the thimbles not being clipped
shouldn't be a problem. When they are not clipped many times the swage
against the thimble causes the end to kink to one side and leaves no flexing
ability in the assembly and sometimes their so bad they need a vice and
pliers to straighten them out, with the "fear" being that the sharp thimble
ends might be cutting into the cable strands.

Don't know about the thimble vs bushing as haven't gotten their yet on the
SR. Did/does MAM provide bushings and thimbles with the kit, as I didn't
inventory my 2nd hand kit? I will have a look as to what I have in the kit
as well as the NOS stock I have, as I have a selection of AN111 cable
bushings with 270 of the -4's in stock that are supposed to be for 1/8"
cable ( and like you say are 3/8" diameter by 3/16" bore)
