Windows open on the Rebel

Has anyone done much flying with the windows open on the Rebel? We had some
really hot days here recently, and I tried it, but didn't like the way it
felt. There was a real drumming of the interior with the windows open, where
the sides of the airplane vibrated in and out. What about doors all the way
off? I have the little vents that MAM supplies by the feet on the sides
behind the firewall, but they don't help much when it is really hot. I
definitely need some more venting.

I have the eyeballs up in the wing root, that blow on our faces, that work
fairly nice. The best "scoop" I have seen yet is the Snap Vent installed in
the side windows. The model CC3251 pops in and out and if you forget it they
will go flush when you flip the window down without breaking anything.
Requires braveness for cutting 3 1/4" diameter holes in your nice side
glass, but they do work nice. $13.65US/pair from Wag Aero and $8 from ACS.
Will take a shot of these on Howard's while I am at it!

The guy I sold FOKM to last Spring flew with the doors off during the
summer. Said it work just fine, but then again this guy drives around in an
open jeep all year long, so okay to him may not be okay to you, and oh yah
watch were you leave your map!!

Thanks, Wayne. It would be good to know exactly where on the window to
install these. I assume as close to the front as possible. What is the best
way to cut lexan that size? Will a round hole saw, the type you put on your
drill, work? I am not sure if they go up to 3 1/4".

Yes with a hole saw and they come that big and larger. Get someone to hold a
2X6 up behind the window and drill using the board as a background, or
better yet remove the door and do it on the bench with the wood backer. Then
take some sand paper and smooth the hole edges so it doesn't crack from the
edges. Oh ya, practice on a scrap piece first and make sure you can do it
cleanly and that the hole comes out the right size!!
