Gear legs and dorsal fin

Ok, I'm convinced to cover my gear legs with .020 metal and I may as
well order enough metal to make my dorsal fin. Would .020 also be
suitable for the fin?. Is there a good 6061 sheet metal supplier in the
Toronto area? I'd rather not have to pay a $60 fee for shipping 1 piece
of metal across the country.
Thanks,
Clay

You Canadians are really getting shafted on frieght charges. My tail is still
smarting from the freight on a e size plotter bought on eBay. Freight from
Ontario to Texas was twice what would have been if it had been shipped from
Seattle to Miami. I will confine my bids to US locations only.

Hi Clay,
I'm not sure about the supplier, but if you're going to order from MAM, when we made ours, we made the leading edge out of the elevator leading edge material. The reason we needed the leading edge material, and why we ended up with enough to do the gear leading edges is a whole different and long story so I'll leave that alone. Curt N97MR

That's what I originally used as well, when I did my personal Rebel, the
leading edge for the STAB's. Now I form from flat sheet, in a simple U
shaped trough that I made by nailing a few boards together. I center the
sheet on top of it and using a 1" diameter bar press the sheet into the
"form". This gives a rounded nose and then I break a straight edge (just
clamp the brake) at the location where each side comes up on the leg to take
the spring out of it so it sits nice and flat.

As for a supplier of sheet in the Toronto area, as far as I know Atlas -
Ideal Metals still sells to the public, and as far as I know their phone
number is still 1-905-456-3350, located 268 Orenda Rd, Brampton.

Cheers,

FWIW I have been very happy dealing with Ideal Metals through their cash
sales outlet but someone recently told me that it is now relocated to
Mississauga and that the minumum order value is now higher. They often
have partial sheets or offcuts if you think you might need some thicker
stock in the future or if you don't need a full sheet. Just ask as the
offcuts are all listed in the computer and priced by the lb. A full
sheet of 0.020 is 4'x12' but they will roll it up for you. I think the
0.032 full sheets are 4'x8' and I don't like to roll those up. Phone
first as it can take a half hour or so for them to haul the stuff out of
the warehouse. Let us know how you make out.

An invoice from 268 Orenda Rd., Brampton, shows 905-456-3350 but I
assume the Mississauga location is a different number.
