engine baffles

I'm about to start the engine mounting ordeal. Does anyone have advice on a
pattern for the engine baffles? I'm using an O-320E2D.
Are there patterns available from the group? Has anyone one tried a
pressure plenum instead of the baffles? Terry

I purchased the firewall forward O320 kit from Mam, and although there where drawings for the baffles, the chances of a proper fit to your engine and cowl are slim. I made card board templates for every position by cutting "whoops" taping on pieces and recutting until I was satisfied, then transferred to the aluminum supplied. All fit great and work well after 65 so-far hours.-Rebel "652" in St.Catharines-flying,flying,flying. If anyone (Rebel Builder) is interested in rides-just let me know.-Bob J 905 704 1292

Vans has a baffle kit for the O-360 and O-320 that has the baffles cut
out and many bends made. Not to throw money in the path of "recreation
and education" (FAA euphemism) I like the looks of the Van's kit a lot
better than the flat stock and templates. Still waiting for a Speed
Cowl from MAM to determine fit but a local RV-8 builder said he had to
trim off the baffle tops so presume I can make it fit.

I ordered mine last week based on the following email exchange

"I have a Rebel with an 0-320, aluminum cowl. I bought Van's baffle and it
worked great. I'm glad I didn't convince myself to try and make my own
although this can be done.I mounted the oil cooler on the firewall not on
the baffle. I would definitely by Van's baffle if I were to do it over
again.
With the speed cowl you probably will have to cut a little more off the top
to make it fit.

Good Luck

Hello, I was just about to begin on my engine baffles (0-320) and
remembered that you had mentioned using Van's baffles instead of making your
own.
?? How did they fit and what cowl are you using
I have an Elite with a speed cowl

Your input would be welcomed "
