Welcome to the group, Dan !!
Your Rebel sounds like it's set up pretty much like mine - I
have an O-235-C2C, and have been on 1500 Amphibs since 1996. Have over
250 hours on that one, and over 950 hours on our other Rebel, which has
a Rotax 912. Will be back on wheels for next year, though - for the
Rebel Ramble (our annual fly 'n camp trip with Rebels, and everything else
!)
We run the fat tires, too, although usually a little softer -
between 12 and 18 lb.. You're right - it DOES soften the landings !!
I'm curious about the VG's - I always thought the Rebel had
them 'built in' - the rivets !! :-) Sounds like you approach at a
very low speed - we've found it much easier and safer to use full flap
and 70 - 75 mph for a very steep approach, then a little 'float' time
to get the flare angle sorted out... Just a thought.
Where are the VG's, how many, how big, what speeds ???? Inquiring
builders want to know ! :-)

powered, on the bungee gear. I have had to do some repairs on the gear but

Removingfor some reason on the right side was wider than called for. My error. I
noticed some wrinkling of the skin to the rear of the aft bulkhead.

hands off after trimming. It has old style cowl, larger 8.00x6" tires.

taking a lot of the stress away from the gear. The field where I keep it
ongrass and fairly rough, so the gear has held up well. I don't have any
complaints. I have installed VG's and they seem to help in landing. I no
longer have to worry about a high sink situation, that was common with my
aircraft, on slow approaches. The VG"s have not had any noticeable effect
cruise speeds. Got to run before I get too long winded.
