Here is a quick one that I'm sure must have been asked and answered before,
but I can't find it.
On the forward 3/8" wing attach bolts, should one fabricate spacers or install
washers to fill the spaces? or should the bolt just be snugged up? Seems that
if the bolt is to be properly torqued, that the spaces should be filled?

Not sure how else to word this question, hope it makes sense?

Paco? You MUST fill these spaces or your wing would slide back and forth on
the 3/8" bolt bending the rear attach fitting, binding the torque tubes and
cracking open your fuel lines. Place your wing, so as not to deflect the
rear attach fitting, and then determine what spacers you need at the front
spar attach. Some Rebels only need spacers aft of the wing attach fitting to
fill the space and some need for and aft, depending on how the fuselage
measurement compares to the wing. Not always the same side to side either!!
ONLY the SR3500 is to have a floating REAR attach fitting and this floating
is a very minor float to insure that the loads are concentrated on the
beefed up forward attach fitting.

For spacers you can use aluminum, delrin or washers. Which ever item you
have is fine as long as you fill the space to allow tightening the bolt
without crushing the carrythrough and gusset plates inward at all!

Thanks so much for quick response and the explaination. I think I should have
asked this question 30hrs ago! Glad I'm still here to ask it! I kinda figured
I should fill the gaps.

I've been keeping a low profile with the new (to us) house. New kitchen for
the wife new shop for me.

If any one is wondering about supporting wings I just rented a great gadget
for installing drywall on ceilings (drywall lifter) the whole time I was lifting
drywall I kept thinking, boy this would be great for lifting wings. Seems to
be available at any rental shop.

Yep...sounds like a great way Brad! I use a walk behind pallet lift truck
and remove and install wings by myself. Really nice when they are up on
blocks and sitting on amphibs. Nobody can reach that high. The lift is the
cats meow!

Good observation! I have been using a drywall jack to remove/install wings
on planes for a number of years. A trick that a friend of mine showed me. I
ended up purchasing one for myself after renting a few times. They really
work nice.

I didn't even know there was such a thing although I really hope my
drywall days are behind me.
A section of scaffolding will also work if you don't mind shimming 2x10
board's, don't plan to use it very often, and are on wheels.
Comes in handy for a makeshift bench, shelves, and hanging things for
painting too.

Awesome tip! I've used a drywall lifter before and it didn't occur to me
then how useful that would be for mounting the wings. Of course, I was no
where near ready to mount wings then. Now I am ready and I'm gonna rent me
a drywall lifter! Thanks again.

Do you do anything special to the lift or just add padding between the lift
and the wing?

Do the rear wing attach bolts remain the same 3/8" or are they larger also?
What is used for spacers on the rear wing attach?
