choosing a propellor

Hi Shira !

You could go for a compromise prop - there are 3 pitches
of Sensenich metal prop recommended for the Rebel.

74" diameter x 54, 56, or 58 inch pitch

The 54 is climb, and the 58 is cruise - I have the 56" on
my O-320. It seems to work well for both - climb is about 1,500 fpm,
with 2 aboard, and cruise is about 125 mph at 2,450 rpm, with faired gear.

I hope to use this prop on amphibs this summer, and don't
expect any problems.

I am trying to decide if it is worth having the climb prop,
because we have 160hp engine. Or is it worth having
more speed when you are in the air.
Thankyou for your responses.

choosing a propellor

Shira, I also have a 160 hp O320 on my Rebel. I am running a Sensenich 74DM-7-0-58 which is a cruise prop. I find my climb with just pilot and 3/4 fuel can reach 2,000 ft per min. on a cool day at 70 mph indicated. With a passenger, this is reduced to a mere 1,500 ft per min. The problems I find with this combination is 1/ If I firewall the throttle in level flight, I can exceed the VNE indicated as the engine approaches the 2700 RPM red line. 2/ For a normal cruise of around 100/110 I have to back off the throttle to 2,000 RPM, and I have had some people tell me this is not good for the engine as it should be running 2200/2300. If I do this I find cruise is to fast for rough air. All I can say at this time is I like the combination ($2800 reasons why) and I would only consider changing if and when I go to floats.
