Server maintenance

Just wanted to let the list know that I'm in the process of doing some major
server maintenance. Everything is running on a backup system at the moment.
I was having a lot of difficulties with the system running reliably and
decided it was time for a rebuild. It's been through a lot of configuration
changes over the last couple of years with all the different homes it has had,
and that can lead to reliability issues. Now that I have it in my own home
and shouldn't be making any more changes it's a good time for a ground up
rebuild. This will allow me to configure it specifically for the current
installation without all the extra stuff that has been added and deleted over
the years.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know what was going on in case there are
times you are not able to get on the site.

the answer... Thanks for all the effort !

Maybe it's a good time to install Linux, while you have a

I don't have a couple years to try and rewrite all the software that's
running on this system to port it over to Linux... I really think the system
has done pretty well for Micro$haft! Started running it in 1997 and it's
been moved from one system to another about 5 times, changed home as many,
and it's still the original installation... just copied from one drive to
another. Not that there haven't been any problems, but not bad for all it's
been through.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the list server might be
unavailable off and on for the next few days. I've had a persistent problem
with the disk array for some time now, and today I almost wasn't able to
recover. I do have backups of the system, but it still takes a long time to
restore a system this complex from a backup. Anyway I will be working hard to
isolate the problem with the drive system and will be completing a complete
system backup which requires that I stop all network services in order to have
full access to all files... this will probably take several hours and happen
some time tomorrow.

Just wanted to drop everyone a quick note to let you know that I'll be doing
some server maintenance today, and the system will be offline for a while.
Shouldn't be more than a couple of hours tops. Just try again later if it
doesn't respond for you.

Well there's still some work to do, but I think I've got most of the basics
back up and running on the new server. Right now I believe the only thing
on the Rebel Builders site that isn't working is the address book, and since
I've been at this for about 15 hours now, I'm going to save that for
tomorrow!

Try everything out, and if you find something that's not working right,
please let me know.
