Hi Everyone!

Mike and Warrens discussion on split tanks brings up an important item for
ANY fuel tank on the SR/Elite or Rebel. When you build the tank area make
sure that the stringer (Elite/Rebel) or stringers (SR) are cut back enough
at the root rib area that the fuel can drain past the stringer. Important
not to put a large hump of proseal here either, so make sure you trowel it
smooth when you are filleting the lower skin in place. Otherwise you will
have less usable fuel, although minuet, but it may make the difference
between hitting the bush or the strip a half mile away someday! The big
thing is it could be a place for a good quart or more of water to collect,
if for some reason you get bad fuel or leave your fuel cap off in the rain.
You could drain you water drain and find nothing, and then on take off have
it all slosh back to the outlet. Outcome would not be nice.

What is the approved alternate procedure?
Will a roll on every flight slosh the water back or does it have to be a
half loop with a roll off the top?

Probably a negative (outside ) loop with a roll off the bottom would work
better :>) or a hole drilled in the lower tank skin, just forward of the
stringer, and a cork to absorb the moisture!

Is the stringer cut back in the tank called out in the instructions? Just
wondering as I am waiting for fast build wing and hoping they build them
that way. I'll email MAM and ask unless someone on here already knows??

I too am working on a quick build. I just went and checked the inside of
the wing tanks, (80 gal fuel) and found that the right wing has the root rib
flange facing inwards (towards the fuel bay), and the stringers start just
past the flange, hence there is about a 3/4 inch gap. No problem with this
wing. The left wing has the root rib flange facing outwards (towards the
fuselage) and the stringers start about 1/8 inch from the rib's face.
These are prosealed to the rib, so some careful trimming of the proseal
should help this side.
