Broken Tank Rivet Mandrel
Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:00 pm
I have riveted a box full of RV-1410s with not one failure. But several times
now with the tank rivets the mandrel has broken off half-way down, just beyond
the grip of the rivet puller. Has anyone else had this experience, and if so,
what do you suggest to fix it? In a couple places it seems more trouble than
its worth to drill it out and start again. The rivet seems to have set just
fine, and I am wondering whether I could just shave it off with a cutting disk.
Many thanks!
