SR Fin Spar Cap Layout Pictures

Hi All,

While applying the 3500 upgrade to my Quickbuild kit I found the directions
where not clear to me as I was not upgrading a previously finished fin. This
was primarily true in the bottom section. The layout in the instructions
seems to leave out the area where the rudder stop gets installed. I've
uploaded two pictures ... they may save builders the extra time it took me
to determine a layout.

SR Fin Spar Cap Layout Pictures

Hi Don! Was going to post direct to you but figured that doesn't do everyone
else any good!

I spent a long time here also comparing the original manuals 2500
instructions to the 3500 upgrade instructions and CAD drawing in the back of
the upgrade instructions. I determined that the supplied drawing was WRONG
as it shows the fin rib well above the rudder hinge and this is not the
case. IT also swaps the description of "internal and external" compared to
the 2500 manual. In reality the hinge is almost even with the rib. It
appears you have gone with the CAD drawing showing to stop the internal
(long) spar cap below the rib (and ignored where the drawing shows the hinge
bracket), when in fact (<I believe>) it should go about 5 rivets above it to
pick up the rudder hinge bracket area. I thought I had sent this off to the
list at the time, but maybe just to Brian G. for manual corrections. I
thought maybe the rivet pitch and rib location had changed from my early
kit, but this is not the case. You have the same 17 rivets in the rear skin
stringer between the bottom rib and the rib in question as I do!

Hate to be a "thorn", but I think I am right here. Where you stopped the
longer spar cap is not much different than the original 2500's location.
Before you proceed any further (or rip it back apart) PLEASE check with
Brian Godden at MAM for his thoughts on this as it just may be okay as is,
but I think they want the upgrade spar caps to tie in above the rudder
hinge. Let us know the outcome!

I have uploaded 2 pictures of what I did, to the SR fuselage section as
well. The black marker line, TWO holes above the top cleco shown in the
shot, is where I stopped the thing.
