control column bolts

From Calgary
Trying to maintain full travel with bolt installed in connecting rod between your two control sticks inside control column.
Manual says to install washer spacers and tighten bolt until the forks squeeze together a little so that the nut and bolt end clear the inside of the tube to allow full travel .
After an hour and a half I came up with the following.
File the stub off the thickness of a washer on the aft side of the control stick support. Add a washer to the other side. This moves the control stick bracket aft just enough to get the clearence you need for the nut end without bending the forks in the tube to much.I ended up with 2 washers on the bolt, through one side of fork, 3 washers spacer, rod end, 2 washer spacer, other side of fork, 1 washer then the nut. This leaves a little play for the rod end. I also ground 1 1/'2 threads off the bolt. Be sure to round the thread end of the bolt slightly. Don't leave sharp threads at end of bolt
The first time I tightened the bolt the fork at the bolt head end bent in the most. This is not what you want to happen. Part of the problem is is that you have to tighten the bolt into the nut rather than the other way around.
Good luck to all
