Brian,
Just hobbled up out of the basement - BOTH of my metal
tailsprings are 1 5/8" wide - the OLD composite was 1 3/4" !!
All are 16 1/2" long.

It looks like your best bet is to use the composite one,
perhaps a little shorter if necessary.

Thanks again for your help. I think you are right, I will stick with the
composite as you think that the failure mode is not catastrophic. If it
gradually delaminates as you suggest, I can catch it during my preflights.

I will just have to be more careful about my landings - ie make them smooth!

I assume you were talking about my landings. Thanks for your encouragement.
The Super Cub, (my favourite airplane to date), taught me alot about flying
and really helped my landings. I also found out what the rudder was for. I
got my private license and only used it a few times in the 172!

I was ! It is MUCH easier to get good landings in the Rebel than
in the Super Cub !! If you aren't at just the right attitude at just the
right speed, the Cub will SKIP ... The Rebel just lands & stays put.

Bob,

Are you running bungee gear? If so, do you have problems with the bolts
bending?

Also, I received an "AD" from MAM (about 18 mos. back) regarding a new way
to route the safety cable running thru the bungee gear legs. At the risk of
appearing like I can't follow directions, I can't follow those directions or
get a mental image of exactly what they are saying about using one
continuous loop. Are you familiar with this?

Finally, there is someone in Canada who makes a steel bushing block for the
tops of the main gear legs, so that the bearing is not steel AN bolt to
aluminum gear leg. Are you familiar with the mod, and if so, would you
recommend it?
