I think the name of the distributor for Murphy products, specifically the
Renegade, in Australia was Tiger Aviation up by Brisbane when I was there
from 1991 - 1996 flying my Renegade Spirit all over the place. If they are
still around perhaps they would be able to supply the epoxy chromate we're
all using?

Subject: Re: Rebel tailcone stuff
Hi Rick !
Hey, we Canajans can spell too, eh !! It really IS "Polyfiber"
- that's the name of the company that bought the Stits business ...
It's an epoxy primer that SHOULD be used on every joint to
build a Rebel - just 'ASSuMEd' you'd have it ! It <was> shipped with
every kit, until the North American governments decided it was a
"hazardous material" - now must ship separately. Still available from
Murphy, at good prices - but there must be somebody Down Under who
sells their stuff. Polyfiber also supply the fabric and finishes to cover
the flapperons ....
Don't use a 2 part epoxy glue - the primer is thin and brushable,
and prevents corrosion, as well as supplying adhesive.
I think you'd be better off using .032 - even that will give
you a $#$^&^ of a time bending it to match that flat part on the
bottom of the fuse .... and it should be plenty strong enough over
top of the original FUS-30. Be sure to cut it big enough to pick up
rivets along the top, on the horizontal bulkhead that runs beside
the stab, and far enough forward to be an inch or 2 ahead of the
front tailspring bolt. That should solve ALL your worries back there !
I suspect it WOULD be very hard to gather all of the assorted
'fixes' that have been submitted over the years - and not everyone
might WANT to implement ALL of the suggestions ! They <are> just
'suggestions', and each builder should decide for himself if he wants
to use them on HIS Rebel. Some of the suggestions might conflict
with others (I know that's hard to believe ! ;-) )
The "Ontario mods" are just a few things that the builders
here in Ontario have found to be desirable, and are just a small
number of things, relative to the MANY other suggestions that others
have sent in - and we don't even have THOSE written down in one place
- they just get passed on by word of mouth, at our bi-monthly Rebel
Builders meetings ! Many of these suggestions may be specific only to
certain Rebel versions or mods. - e.g. spring gear, or Subaru-engined
models. This web site is a TREMENDOUS resource, and now that the
past emails can be searched by keyword, it should be fairly easy
for a new builder to read up on the particular area he's about to
work in. It probably would do him more good to read these 'in context'
than just be handed a list of mods. . (Thanks again, Mike !!)
Sounds like you'll be back flying again soon, though,
hopefully to enjoy the rest of the summer ! Hope those fires are
a long way from where you are !!

Hey guys ;
You mentioned using a "poly fibre / filler " between the tailcone and
the doubler (plus lots of rivets)
.....WHAT exactly IS "poly fibre" (please note "fibre" is the way it is
spelt in English...and not a typo)
I took our Rebel apart today....and it is only cracked for about 1/2" on
one side at the moment...so I'm
going to make the wrap in .040" 6061 T6....hell , I'm still looking for a
more aft C of G anyway !
Will a good epoxy (two pack) glue do the same job adequately ???
Also................ Mike !
Is it very difficult to make up that list of "KNOWN fixes" that everyone
should be aware of regarding the
Rebel and make it easily accessible for ALL newcomes to see and appreciate
BEFORE they
get caught like so many before ?
You guys "up there" might get wind of all this kind of stuff...but we sure
as hell don't get it "down here"
Thanks Everyone !
