Hi Bob/Wayne ,I have seen some discussion on fuel tank venting but can't
find it again[not to good on the computer] My plan is to leave out the
interal cross venting and just go with the vent pipes on top of each
tank cap I have photos but wonder if you could please confirm the pipe
size you recommend

This reply is from the other Bob as in (Johnson- Rebel 652-Flying)-I went
with the std Murphy recommendation using the vented caps supplied and the
cross venting which has only one "J" tube vent, up through the right wing
root fairing. I chose this to keep my caps simple for fuelers at the
airports.-They cannot put them on wrong. They are also cleaner when washing
the wings. One other feature was to put a red stripe down the center of each
cap which tells me at a glance if they are on tight. The port cap is a
little snug yet and once the fueler did not tighten all the way. I have to
use two hands to twist it properly especially when it is cold. I could see
possibly breaking off a tube sticking up the middle as you are suggesting.
Just my opinion is all. Personally I like pulling up to a fueling station
and going in to have a coffee while they take their sweet ol time. This is
one place where you can get service if you want to take advantage of it. I
just got back from doing circuits to improve my landings-Practice makes
perfect (well almost) WHAT A GREAT AIRPLANE THIS REBEL IS. I have been
smiling hard for over a month now. Keep at it.-Bob J.

This question raised one of my own. Are Rebel builders commonly using a
fuel valve that allows feeding from both tanks at the same time, as well as
being able to select each tank individually? If you do have a both position
doesn't the cross venting help the tanks to feed evenly when "BOTH" is
selected?

Hi Graeme !

I agree with Bob Johnson - put in the cross vent tube, and
mount the inverted J tube on the wing root fairing (so the gas
doesn't drip into the cabin). I drilled out the holes in the vented
caps to 1/16", and added 1/8" holes at the front & back of the
filler necks at the top, where they are sheltered from rain.

You could omit the inverted J tube if you do those extra
holes in the filler necks, but the cross vent tube is easy to do,
and just might save you someday.

No matter what you do, the tanks will drain at different
rates, even if running with both open. I've never seen a Rebel that
didn't drain one side faster than the other ! Same thing seen on
many other aircraft....

Hi All,
Of course just to be different I didn't put in the cross vent and
went for inverted J tubes on each cap and they work fine, you get a little
bit of oscillating fuel levels, but no big deal. They even out when the fuel
level gets low.( can't think of the diameter)

Cheers

Hi Alister & Everyone

I used 1/8 diameter stainless steel tube on each tank cap. No issues with
this at all.
